Cooper is a minor character featured in Days Gone.
Biography[]
Cooper was a National Emergency Response Organization researcher, who in 2019 was ordered to go with a team into a cave in the Highway 97 region and take DNA samples from a mutant Freaker they had been tracking, but all contact ceased soon after. More than 12 hours later, his friend James O'Brian tasked the errant Deacon St. John with investigating the cave to find the missing team. Deacon finds them, one by one, three being already dead. Deacon learns from Cooper, who was alive but dying, that they were wiped out by a single Freaker, which the researcher calls the "Reacher."
O'Brian, when informed about Cooper's survival, offered to send a rescue team, but St. John tried to get Cooper on its foot, but found that he had both legs broken, and that his hazmat suit was compromised, so he may be infected. Cooper asked to talk with his wife Jenn but barely had time to say anything before finally dying.
Legacy[]
Deacon St. John avenged Cooper and his team when he killed the Reacher, and retrieved the samples before giving them to O'Brian. He was angry about NERO's isolation, and O'Brian pointed than Cooper was his friend, not Deacons'.
