When I was a kid I used to hop on freight trains, flatbeds mostly, and ride the rails from Farewell all the way down to Chemult. I remember the first time going through the Jefferson Tunnel, which connects to the Cascade Range rail line north of here. Coming in the Farewell Wilderness the first time? Was like riding into another world.
