He was a doctor and early pioneer of Farewell, Oregon, later discovered to have been a serial killer following his disappearance in 1905.

Early life[]
Nothing is known of Joseph's early life. At the beginning of the 20th century, he was a doctor who lived and worked in the town of Farewell, Oregon. Walker made a living treating pioneers and settlers in the region, many of whom he murdered for reasons unknown, before disappearing in 1905.
In 1907, local residents discovered the Grotto Caves and with it, the remains of over two dozen people. They were believed to be victims of Walker's killing spree before his disappearance.
