- The RPD will be the player's starting LMG, whenever the player begins fighting a Horde in challenge mode.
- It is heavily based on its real-life Soviet-era counterpart, but without the deployable folding bipod. It also differs in that it uses a disintegrating belt rather than a two-part reusable metal belt.
- RPD stands for Ruchnoy Pulemyot Degtyaryova (Russian: "Degtyaryov-system hand-held machinegun"). It was the standard Soviet light machinegun from 1944 until it was replaced by the magazine-fed RPK (Ruchnoy Pulemyot Kalashnikova, "Kalashnikov-system hand-held machinegun") squad automatic weapon, starting in 1961.
